18. What invention would the world be better off without, and why? (Kalamazoo)

All the inventions have different use. Such as the phone for communication, ipod for the entertainment, but one invention was created and it was useless. That was the atomic bomb. I do not know the reason why did the scientists created it? For personal use, or war; none of that will help the human kind.

I saw the caused of the atomic bomb in Japan. Why did the American drop it on them? Does the American have the right to do it? I still do not get it. The fact is that atomic bomb has a huge destruction power. Despite all of that destruction power, what else can it does? I wonder. Another cause that atomic bomb can bring is that it is very expensive. To make an atomic bomb, it takes a lot of money. With that amount of money, we can build many schools for some countries which have a low economic. Instead of making a bomb to destroy a country, and bringing doom or radiation to the human kind, we can do something better. Why don’t we spend that amount of money to Africa to save the hundred thousand African? The big fact is that it is harder to kill than to heal. Why some people do not have that thinking? Some countries spent million to million to upgrade the offensive and defensive systems to protect their country. What a waste of money! I think that those political leaders in some strong countries do not even consider how value the human life is. In the case that the atomic bomb makes an explosion, all the people in a big area will be kill; and the radiation. How can the local people live near that area deal with it? Anyway the atomic bomb is useless. It does not help anyone in anyway. The best solution is that all the project about it should be destroy in order to make human life more insecure.

An advice which turned my life became better.

3. What is the best advice you ever received? Why? And did you follow it? (University of Pennsylvania)

It was on a day that I stood in the International Air port of India. The day that I thought I would never get to do the stuffs that I used to. No more hanging around with my family, and friends. All I could do was waiting next phone call, but it seemed hopeless. No more phone call. I was nerves at the moment that I went on the airplane. I never thought I had to go to study abroad. That was the final decision from my parent. The only good advice I got was from my Pops. He was the one that always give me good advices. Also he saved me many times from the dangerous situations by giving good advices. He said: “Son, you always make me proud, and I know you will make me proud again. I know that. Remember! Never give up, no matter what the situation is. Just stand up and fight, when you stuck, use your head”. First I do not get what he meant, but later the meaning of his advice made a turning point for me.

First time going on the trip alone, I felt very insecure because, my parents were not there to protect me. They once said: “In the house we can protect you as much as we can, but when you go out to the society, you are out of our range. Thus we can not protect you anymore”. I realized that the situation that I was in that current time was tough and it required a lot of my toughness to pass it. Although I could not stand up and took my way. First, I was confused and so sure that everything I did was wrong. Also, I did not know what to do, and I could not adapt to a new environment in India. I was a failure or a lost soldier without a combat at that moment; I did not know whether that I should listen to what my parents said or listened to myself. Suddenly, I found myself back again from the advice that my father gave me when I left. After that, I had more confident in myself. Now, whenever I look back to my past. I see a huge different. My Pops turned my life up in a better with just one advice. Can you find someone do the same thing to you?

Wednesday is an ordinary day, but for me it is a sign. Since Wednesday is the middle day of the week cycle. Hence it is the sign that the weekend is coming. The weather is the same as always, neither cold nor hot. I always enjoy the Wednesdays. Wednesday maybe seem too far away from the weekend. When Wednesday comes, it shows that Monday and Tuesday have passed. The feeling that I have on Wednesday is different from rest of the week cycle. Seem that, I feel more freely than other days. For Monday, it is just after the weekend; it makes me do not want to go to school at all. Doing homework over the weekends, making me feel tire more than ever, I never get to enjoy my weekend freely, due to the appearance of the homework. On Wednesday, I feel like the weekends is coming, and it creates an illusion that tomorrow is Saturday. It does not matter how much homework I have on Wednesday, I never felt the homework is a lot for me on Wednesday. I am not sure that if it is just only me that I am very lucky on Wednesday. Someone asked me out on Wednesday, I got into a basketball team…. Every single Wednesday, I have badminton practice. I forgot to mention that playing badminton under the sunlight of the beautiful Wednesday is very enjoyable. After thinking so much about the Wednesdays, I realize that having the test on Wednesday is the best. If I have the test on Wednesday, I get more time to study for it, since Wednesday is in the middle of the week cycle. Saying this much about Wednesday, it shows me that Wednesday is very special. Now people will see how I use my beautiful Wednesday.

Wonderful Day

·  If you had a day to spend as you wish, how would you use your time? (Carleton College)

As many economists say that, “time is a limited resource”. Time is not capable to control for the humankind. So we have to use it cleverly. If I have a day as I wish, I would use the time wisely, because it is an only day that I have in my entire life.  Then, my point is that I will spend the time mostly with my family, because they act as a major role of my life. Next I will spend time with my girlfriend; she is the one who shared with me everything. Afterward, I will do what I wanted to do the most.

For my family, I will talk to them; share my feeling, my thought about life, and my top secrets. While I am having many conversations with my relatives; I will serve the snack and drink to them. The food will keep people busy and give them satisfaction with their mouth, and their stomach. I give my hand in helping my mom and aunt cooking the food.  The topics of the conversations will be broad, such as about school, daily life, work, sometime about the mistakes of life. I think the conversations are mainly about me, since I am the special one in the whole family.

            The next person is my special one. She is the one that shares with me everything, and this person has a huge effect in me. From school, to outside school, she is the one who helps me a lot. For this special day I will make it the most special day ever for her. She has been caring, and always helping me no matter what the situation is. Maybe this is the only chance that I can show her how much I love her. I then prepared a special gift which I spent a lot of time to do it. And for this special day, I will use many sweet words to talk to her.  

After the time that I spend to finish the object that I listed above, I will use the rest of the time of the day to relax. Maybe I will look back to the past, and have some thought about what already happened in the past or may be the future. The thing that concerns me a lot is the “Time”. The matter is that I want more time to do more things, but….. That is the list of my special day.  

A person who helped me escapse from the "Loneliness"

Tell us about the neighborhood that you grew up in and how it helped shape you into the kind of person you are today. (Yale and the University of Chicago)

There was a girl lived next to my house. Her name is ...... She was the one that helped shape me into the person who is talkative and friendly. When I was a kid, I did not socialize much with everyone around me, because I was shy, and I do not know what to say to the person in front of me. I was a type of silent person. I did everything on my own; and I did not rely on anyone help. I was invisible with the environment that I lived in.

Until a day, there was a family who moved next to my house. The girl lived in the house beside my house, was an energetic, talkative, nice, and an only one that actually talked to me. One day, when I stayed late in school, because there was a party in my house, and every member in my family was busy. I decided to walk home alone, but I was too scare to go without anyone. Then I realized that I was a "loner". The word “loneliness” was used to describe me. Suddenly, someone call my name from the back. It was my neighbor, and she said that she wanted to walk with me to my house (Forgot to mention that she applied into the same school as me). I thought “Two people are better to walk than walking alone”. On the way back, she made me answered all her questions. Finally, I realized that it was so easy to socialize with people. After that day, I talked more with her, then my family. Finally, I started talking to my friends in school, and they said that I have a good scene of humor.

Because of the shyness, I became a silent guy, and did not socialize with anyone. With the appearance of my neighbor, she helped me became a new person. At the moment I talked to my neighbor on the day walking back from school, I finally took out the mask that I was hiding behind. The title “loner” was gone after that day.

Opportunity in Life

If you could go back and change one day in your life, what would you change and why? (Santa Clara University)

I would choose the day that I made the biggest mistake in my life. Why? Because it was the day that I regretted the most about the things i have done on that day. Nobody can get a chance to correct what they did wrong; so this is a chance that I have been waiting for too long. Who knows if this opportunity would come once again? This chance is a big advantage for me, since I can correct my mistake; I can perfect myself for my own good and maybe for the others also.

My biggest mistake in my life was when I had to decide where the best place to go to study aboard would be. The choices for me were India and America; I did not know where to go since the request to go studying aboard from my parents just came across me when I was a kid at the age of 15, thus, I could not decide on my own.

I was stuck and confused about what choice I should make and I made a decision to go to India. I thought that it was going to be a good choice for me. I finally ended up studying, and started settling down there slowly. But there was no doubt about the facility of the school because it was too good for me, at that time when I just came.

After I graduated from the Woodstock school, and I had a chance to go to America. I happily found out that the facility of the school in America was way better than the time I had in Woodstock school, and the lessons provided there was much more diverse and rich; hence I realized, that the choice I made in the past was not good at all.

The opportunity that I can go the past is going to the past can change my entire life. I always wanted to fix that mistake. If I can fix it, I wouldn't have to live a difficult life for 4 years.

Past - Present - Future

·  Imagine that you have the opportunity to travel back through time. At what point in history would you like to stop and why? (Swarthmore)

Travel back through time is a one time chance in a life. Nobody can just get that lucky opportunity. If I had a chance to go back in time, I would definitely choose the time period when my country “Vietnam” got its independence. By choosing that time period, I would have more opportunity to make my country becomes better, and I, myself would write my own history. Since this is an opportunity which is impossible to achieve lying in my hand now. I feel like it is going to be a big challenge in my entire life, because it is an only opportunity. In addition, I would have a chance to make my country become better. Not to forget to mention that I would have to write down my own history. Finally, I want to prove a theory which was said by a famous scientist (sorry, but I don’t know his name) that “if someone goes back to the past and changes one particular event, that event which person changes will also change the future.” 

It would be a difficult decision to choose what time period that I would want to go to, because it will be the only opportunity in my life to change history. Actually, in the beginning, I would not know what time period I would have chosen first, but I got to know the financial problems, and the corruptions in the government of Vietnam. A love of a citizen for a country will not let any opportunities which make his or her country become better. It is same for me; my heart is toward my country. With the knowledge and wisdom that I learned in school and experience from life, it would be a helpful manual going with me to the past.

I want to make history in a way that everyone will remember me. I saw from the history textbook that there were many heroes, leaders, scientist, etc. I had a wish that one day, the students whom study in the high school would learn about me, about my life, etc. I can not stop thinking about it because it is one of the motivations make me desperately want to go back to the past.

Lastly, I want to see how the theory of the scientist works. I know that it is a risk to change the past, because I do not know what might happen when I come back to my time period. If I do not take the risk my name will not be in the history. I have to go on with the decision. 

From my point of view, whatever I do have some meaning, and I will not turn back with my words. Every action, I am going to take will be my choice and I do not care what others think.
