The most important for me in life is to have fun, just enjoy the best I can right now, because time is going too fast, and I do not think that I have enough time to do it later. I do not want to regret about the things that I did not do. Having fun here not just fooling around. I do not just study, but will voluntary for every single activity. In the past, I have missed so many chances that I could have proven myself that I am not bad. Let’s hear my example; before I came to Woodstock, I was a kid who did not have any friends. The reason was that I was too shy to talk to people and I just ignored everyone. Since I came to Woodstock, I had no choose but to talk to people and I realized that how much fun when I talked to people. I feel better, because I have someone to share my thought, my idea, or even my sadness. About the activity, even if I know that I am good, but I can really stand in front of the crow and do it. I FEEL scare…… But not anymore, now I have some more confident to do whatever bring me joy or fun. At least I have someone to help or even listen to me when I have sorrow, or even when I go through the depression.  So one again, my philosophy of my life is that just have fun, a quote from a famous person is that “You never know what will happen. UNLESS, you try.” So listen to me and try your best, even know that you can’t win but just give your best shot. You never know the outcome.

Physical EDUCATION

179. Should college students be required to take physical education courses? Why or why not?

According to my personal experience, health is the most important for every student. Nowadays, students are overload with work, and therefore stamina and health is required a lot. Imagine that waking up at 7: 00 AM every single day to prepare for yourself a good day to study. Do you think that it is possible for college student? I am not sure with that answer is YES. Most of the college students have a lot of work compare to the time that they are still in the high school. Therefore I will give my answer to this question. College students are required to take the physical education course. Not just for their health, also it is very easy to earn a good grade in college.  Not just for a fit body that everyone likes, but for the better future. Some people  are not confident in themselves or scare of sport. By taking the physical education course, it will help them become more active and they can gain more confident. I am sure that by making the college students take this course, it will also help them improving their leadership, friendship, partnership, and also sportsmanship. Physical education course is not just important in order to gain a good healthy body. It will also give college students a lot of benefits. For an example, a college student have to do listen to the lectures in school for 5 hours a day, and they also have to work for another 2 hours to gain money to use. Without the Physical education course, they will be exhaust with load of works. By taking the physical education course, I will have enough energy or stamina to catch up with their work and study. Joogging

186. Jogging has become extremely popular. Explain why you jog or why you don't.

Jogging is a good exercise for us as a human being. Why it is good? Simple reason, since it is an active activity, and it makes us feel better. That is why it is good. I see that some people do not like jogging. The fact is that they are just being lazy. They are rather sitting in front of their laptop, TV, PSP, or even comics and do nothing for a whole day. Maybe those stuffs that they do are not bad for one or two weeks, but for a long term…. Hmmm, I do no think that is a good idea. People nowadays are just becoming fat and fatter due to their laziness. One small advice to help those lazy people to get their butt off their position they are right now. That is jogging. Hopefully, they want to follow that advice. Come back to me, and this is my answer for this question, I do jog. I do not intestinally in love with jogging like some experts. But I like it, because when I jog, I can forget about those bad things that happened to me. Maybe I think about my future, think about the life and find out what I need to do to accomplish my goal. Sometime, I can think of some better ideas or solutions for my projects, essay, or even my love life.  For me jogging is also just an excuse for nothing playing sports since I am not good. I do not know since when jogging becomes a part of my life, due to the fact that I have to jog to school every day. I cannot deny the fact that jogging is bad. Repeating the reason why I jog is that I can really find out what I am looking for.

Find X:

X is just an undefined value or a mysterious sign. Many people have been using the X for the many purposes. Such as love we will use XXX for a kiss, for sexual we are going to use XXX for the female, for the some p**n we might want to say XXX. X has been and always using for those purpose mainly. In education, mathematic uses X as a number that we have to find, which makes many students have to use their brain as its limit to find what that unknown number is. In literature, we want to use X as subject that can not be defined. How about science, the scientists use the X for the destination where they want to aim the rockets or missiles. Forget to mention that X can also be used in the map to point out the destination. For me X is just a letter which can show my curious toward the stuffs that I do not know. I do not really think that X has another use like what I list above. Maybe there is some use of the letter X that I do not know. Like in some manga, the bad, evil characters tend to use the letter X for their crimes. I think it is very cool the way they use it. However, people just tend to think that the letter X is just special. Look closely that letter, I think that it does not have any special meaning. It is just the way people think that make it becomes special.  Or some people want to use X as their goal to achieve something that they plan out. One again I want to say that X does not have any meaning. It just that its appearance is cooler than other letter.  

Academic record

164 Do you believe that your academic record accurately reflects your abilities? Explain.

According to me I do not think so, how does academic record can really reflects the abilities of a person? Let’s take an example, a person who runs so fast can really study good in some subjects such as Pre- calculus or Literature. The answer is no. Academic record just to shows that how much concentration of a person on the subject to get a good scores or letter grade. Another example is that in order to get a good grade in the class, a student has to follow the instruction of the teacher, just a little bit mistake that person might get a point of. Where the creativity and interesting of a student will go? From there we clearly see the answer that academic record can’t really reflect the abilities of a student, because it limits the potential of a student. When a teacher puts the limitation on a student, it is not just killed the imagination of a student, but to make them hate the subject more. I have a friend, he does not like English, but still the teach force him to do the challenge. He has no choice but to do it because he does not want his grade to drop because of one stupid challenge. From there, does anyone thing that the grade of this assignment can reflects my friend’s ability. I will not answer this question and I will leave the answer to you. 

A perfect place

182. If you were awarded an expense-paid trip to any one place in the world, where would you go? Why?

Any place in the world??? WOW, that sounds very interesting, but I would definitely choose the place that I can find out the reason why I am there, and what am I going to do there? I do not really know what do know and where to go. As I am writing my answer for this college essay, I stuck here with some confusion in my head and the exam tomorrow which I do not even study. A place that would help me in finding myself, I doubt that there is a place like that. A place has a lot of fun that I can enjoy and it never ends. In my dream I would definite find it, but when I come back to the reality. It is not there. If it is there, I would definitely go there and settle down. I will come back to the reality to find it. As my parents want me to become successful, I guess USA is the best place to start off. USA is the place that everyone would call the land of opportunity. There will be many chances for a person like me to find out myself. I am lost in the place that I am living right now. Everyone is wearing the mask that I can not even see through. Also forget to mention that the people in the place that I want to go; they do not wear mask. They are very open and friend, and they do not hide themselves behind the mask. I am still finding, and one day I am sure that the place that I am looking for will be there and wait for me. 

Ban

180.If you could ban anything in the world, what would it be and why?

 If I could ban anything in the world, I would definitely ban the way people think about gay people. What have the gay person done to the humanity? They did nothing, but why all the people around them want to be mean to them. Using the word “mean” in here is very soft and nice. I think the best words for this is trashing, forcing, or even pushing the gay people to their limitation. One side of the truth is that human wants to be nice to the gay, just to show their pity to them. The other side is that they are trashing, thrilling, or even protest against gay people. Many and many laws, rules, or even political that have been giving that they should not treat the gay people bad. Are they are sure that laws and rules that they apply to the reality world work. I do not think so. Looking at some country such as Vietnam, gay people can be seen as a bad thing in the society. Gay people do not even get to do what they really want to do. Also they are seen by the people as a lower class than the labor. I do not really know why people just being racism about it. Try to look back sometime in the past, how many gay people died due to the stupidness and jealousness of the people in the society. One again, let’s me ask you, what have they done to you so that you have to treat those people like that? They are not accepted in the society, why? Just because gay people love the people in the same gender as them instead of loving you and that is not the point. The point is that those people who hate gay people should think over it again. STOP BEING CHILDLISH!!! BE MORE MATURE OR A GROWN MAN!!!

Alien

128. Make a bold prediction about something in the year 2020 that no one else has made a bold prediction about. (U of Virginia)

I have no idea what will have happen in the year 2020. My prediction is not involving in dying, because it is very obvious that everyone has to die. No one can run away from that cycle of life. The prediction that I am going to make in here is that we are going to be invaded by alien. Why do I make a prediction like that and what will make people believe so? The main factor that leads me to that wide guest is by the time 2020 our technology will become better than ever. By that we will easily detect the location of the aliens. But somehow, me misunderstanding with the alience and they are going to invade the Earth. What evidences that lead me to the guess that alien will come to the Earth? I think that from 1900s, we have been collecting many difference dead bodies of alien. Also in the past, around ancient time, there was a predictor which said that in the future there will be many outsiders come to visit the Earth. Some famous ancient place, there are some drawing which draw about the weird looking ship. Scientists believe that those drawing relate to the existence of the aliens. Nowadays, the mysterious about the those alien become more and more mystery. In Hollywood, some director made movies about the alien, it is not just a scary movie, but give the movie watcher more information about the alien. Maybe the message that the director want to give to the watchers is the existence of the alien. I, myself not really believe about the existence of the alien, but somehow these evident makes me believe that they are alive and live in another planet. Do you think that in 2020 you will be captured by some random aliens? That is unbelievable right……

Got caught because of the stupidness

How did you get caught? (Or not caught, as the case may be. (U of Chicago)

                Getting caught!!! Hmm…. I am not really sure about it. There are many type of getting caught. Like get caught in playing game, get caught in stealing, get caught in looking at the girl bathroom, or even get caught while you are doing something naughty at night. The case I am going to talk in here is that I got caught in looking at the girl bathroom. It was a big mistake in my life. Oh my god! I could have never thought that I could have done something such at that thing. But everything was a mistake. I was so happy about it, but still that I will be a lesson for me to learn that I should have read the sign carefully before going into the restroom. On a sunny day, while everyone is enjoying the beautiful sunlight in the greenly garden, I have to rush through all the hall way in the high school to use the restroom in the gym. Due the maintaining of the high school restroom, I have to push myself to the limit of exhaustion to find the restroom for man. As I am running through the hall way, I can not think of anything in my head. Basically, my head was blank. When I reached gym, I continuously rushed myself to find the man restroom. The first restroom in the gym is for the guests. After passing the guest restroom, I knew that I still had to find the man restroom. At that time I could not hold it anymore, as I pass over every obstacle on my way. Finally, I stood in front of the restroom. As soon as I walked in I felt something strange about the restroom, but I could not tell what it is. After I finished my job in the restroom, and I walked out, I saw a GIRL. She screamed out as I did something bad (ya, and I just did it). That is the day I got into trouble, and that is how I got caught.  

   

Confusion

What confuses you most in life, and why? (University of Virginia)

Everything in this world is pretty much the same. Humans around the world are also pretty much the same. Our body was made from the same substances, same elements. The only differences are the brain, the DNA, the feeling toward the same subject. But the most confusing thing for me is the feeling of people toward each other. I have been thinking about this over and over again and the result is that I am still confused about it. For an example, I like a girl in my school, Woodstock. She is not attractive to the others, but with me she is cool in her own way. We are friend for a long time, and I think that we both have some feeling toward each other. On a beautiful day, I asked her to go to bazzar with me on Saturday, and she agreed. That day, we went together, and had a lot of fun. Time is passing so fast, both of us could not realize the time that we spent together went so fast. When I drop her in Midlands, the dorm of the girl, I used all my courage to ask her that if she want to be my girlfriend. She paused for a while and her answered was “NO”. I do not get it. We had the same feeling for each other. Is it very hard to understand? Scientists define “LOVE” as a part of our body system and we are able to control it. But mainly in poem or some ancient love story, the characters follow what their heart says. The feeling of human toward each other confuses me more than whatever could have done to me.The feeling of the human is the hardest thing to define or to be understandable. It is not a part of our body system to cut out and see what is inside. I doubt that if somebody has an answer that I am seeking. I wonder how much knowledge can describe our feeling toward each other. 

An ability gift: telepathy.

It is very awesome if I have telepathy, an ability that can read other people’s mind. There for I will take a good use of that ability. In the past, human did not have any trick or any evil plans like nowadays. Many and many famous persons died due to their trust. If I can receive the ability that can read people mine, I will have something to back up when they try to trick me. Also, I can find out who has a plan to murder me or not. Forgot to mention that if a student such as me has this ability, they will be definitely using this ability to cheat on the exams or test. Knowing that cheating is not good, but what else can a person think of a purpose of using this power as a wonderful gift that not everyone can get. For me, I will join all the trails and help the judge to find out who is the murder, stealer, or even terrorist. A good use of this ability is to help this world becoming a better place. Not just helping destroying the evil plan that many people come up, I will defend the justice that I find it is good. Reading people mine is bad, because we are not allowed to read what they are thinking. On the other words, we are using their private. I am sure that I will take this power to use for the world, and not just for my personal use. In some case, I will have to use it for my good, such as to find out think that I have ever wondered in my life. I just need to figure those secrets out. Curiosity is unavoidable for every single human in this world.   I am sure about that.

Teleport DOOR ? Any better idea

If you could invent something, what would it be, and why? (University of Virginia)

If I could invent something, I would invent a nuclear battery. A battery which provides endless energy. Threats of radioactivity can be eliminated by putting a lead casing on it but the possibilities and resources this battery will open are endless. People all over this world are looking for reliable energy resources and nuclear power is one of the solutions. If a kg of plutonium can generate the same energy as the sun, an AAA battery made out of it would be good of a deal. Remotes, cars, laptops, phones, music systems, power backups, electricity, car fuel are just some of the many things this battery can be used for. Everybody on this planet currently looks for green, clean and profitable energy resources. Manufacturers look for green cash and green grass at the same time which creates a problem as to get any you have to sacrifice the other. So why not make them a deal which benefits both the sides. Of course the battery is going to be expensive for seeing. I mean manufacturing costs, area, security are only some of the hazardous threats this battery can bring but costs get eliminated as market competition comes in. The risk of radioactivity may seem bad to some, but who told you to make a radioactive plant in a neighborhood? Security. Well fires in a nuclear factory are bad seeing what happened in Chernobyl, but with some careful night shift workers and running reactor tests on time, we all can live happy ever after with an energy source which never ends, never stops and most of all, will be dirt cheap.

Parenting ???

Do you think that you have the qualifications of a good parent? Discuss.

My answer is yes. I think that the best gift in the world for me and other teenagers is parents. The quality of my parents in taking care of me is the best and nothing in the world can compare to it. But the question that I want to rise here is that: how do you measure how good our parents are? According to the source that Mr. Plonka, my English teacher gave me “Freaknomics podcast”. It describes the how good and bad quality of parents. Basically the main point that I want to make is that the only way to measure the quality of our parents is depended on the nature and nurture. Another factor that can help us defines our parents’ quality of taking care of us. I have a lot of experience in this issue due to the fact that I read a lot of paper about family issue. From that I think that I am mature more than other teenagers as a same age as mine. Also, I think that I have been effecting by my parents. It is them that make me become more mature. So I would say that nature would make the best quality parents. I depend on my knowledge and say that if the parents themselves are not good. Do you think that their children will be better than them? I doubt that, but the answer is not there due to some outcome that you never expect. For the end, I would say that I will become a better parents than other teenagers in my age, because I have more knowledge about family issues, and I am sure that my quality of taking care of my child is not bad.

Should prison inmates be allowed to take college courses? Explain why or why not.

For me, the answer is yes. I think that every one has a right to educate. If a person makes a mistake, thus he or she becomes prison, and they are not allowed to take college course, then their future is in ruin. The point that I try to say here is that even if the people who make crimes should have a chance to study. Maybe, at some point, they will understand what they have done is wrong and they try their best to make it up.  Criminals are not just only the people who do not get education, but some of them are the educated one. For an example, Yagami Light in Death Note. "Death Note" is one of the best sell comic in Japan about, a detective L stands up for human kind to fight with Yagami Light, the one has the note book named "death note" which whoever name is written in the note book shall die. Light is a person that everyone that could ever dream of, but unfortunately, he is the one that stayed behind all the killing. For some people they do not get enough knowledge to define the right and the wrong. Even the person who is a well educated still does thing wrong.To conclude this topic, i think that every human in this Earth has to have education, even if they are prisoners they still have a right of human to study. Remember that "Education is extremely important to human kind, without it, we are still undeveloped monkey.'

What outrages you? (Wake Forest)

Slow internet is not just only annoying issue which applied to me. For many Woodstockers, slow internet makes people become angry and slowly turning them insane. In my case, sometime that I thought I would have killed myself because of the slow internet. On a beautiful day, most of the Woodstockers are enjoying their tea time under the warmth sun lights. Only I and myself are fighting with the essay, because it is due at 2:00 and I have to write one more paragraph which is the conclusion. I finished the essay at 1:58, and I was so happy that I had to scream out. I opened internet explorer. It was slowly opened at 1:59, and I had 30 more seconds before the dead line which the time it is due. Normally, turnitin.com will only take 15 seconds to be opened. But this time I counted to 20 seconds but it still did not open. I became more frightened that my 10% of my essay is going to be cut off. Still the webpage was loading. But you know that time does not stop or wait for anyone, and my essay was due late that day I was so angry that I actually broke the keyboard. Anger does not help me to get 10% which were cut off back. I became calm and tried to pretend that one day internet in Woodstock will become better. That day still never comes; I have been waiting until the day graduate. The internet speed is still the same. Luckily my temper is not as hot as my friend. If it was my friend who could not submit work right on time. He could have punch the wall till he is bleed. Everything just frustrates me when the internet is slow. It just like killing me from inside for waiting the webpage to load.

One more thing, human life is depended so much on internet.

Describe your hometown and how you are a product of this environment. (Puget Sound)

There was a big argument about the environment that you live in will make your personality and it is still carrying on till now. I think that for me, I am a mixture of the environment that I live Woodstock and my home. For me living in Vietnam made the person I am today, because I just learn how to make friend and adapt to the new environment. Only Vietnam that made my personality and thus that place is where I am from. Sometime, when I look back to my hometown, it is not modern like US, but it is the mixture of the beauty of ancient and the modern of technology. In the city you will find some place look like very old such as Hoi An, but when you move to the main city, you will find yourselves in America. If you get a chance to go to Hoi An, you will find people with old fashion style. As you keep going straight to the city where the land does not look different from America that much. You will get to see KFC, Domino, and some other food stores that are very famous in U.S. Not only food, you will also some fashion shops which are very popular. Such as Louis Vuiton, Channel, and etc will be find easily. Being a product of this country is that I became a person that can listen to the golden music of Michael Jackson, some classical music to Rap of Eminem, R&B of B.O.B, finally the rock of Linkin Park. Not just listen to music; I become a fan of Korean dramas, fashion, and English. Only one thing would define me as a Vietnamese where I am from is that Vietnamese is very simple but have a lot of love. Even that I am in India and joined Woodstock Community, but my heart and my feeling for my country is the same. 

FACEBOOKING

Explain why and how you would, if given the opportunity, change a decision you made in the past. (Salisbury State)

As I know so far that facebook has been a problem with a student like me, and it will always be. There was a biggest mistake that I did in the past that related to facebook. If there is an opportunity, I would definitely stop using it in the past. By fixing that mistake I can focus on my study easily. Facebook is there around year 2009. When it became very popular, that was the time that I got involve with it. Since I involve in Facebook a lot, it becomes my one of the thing that I have to do every day. From updating status, writing comments on people wall, post my pictures. Sometimes stalking the people that I am interesting, but I can not talk to. While I am using Facebook, I can not focus on my study, and miss many events. One day, my friend came and told me that I should focus on my study. He also says “Every time I come I see you sit in front of that laptop’s screen and staring at the site “FACEBOOK”. At that time I just said “Well, what ever”. Now, I realize that I was wrong and he was right. I was an straight A star student, and now I am just a normal student. I was active and now I just a lazy guys who stays on Facebook over the weekend.  I thought over it, and came up with the idea that I have to stop using Facebook. But the temptation of Facebook is too much for a teenager like me. I could not stop it. Now, I could control the temptation of using Facebook, and I guess it is too late. If I can grant an opportunity to fix that mistake of using Facebook in the past, I think that my life will become a little bit better. Final comment on Facebook. “Facebook is drug and YOU WILL GET ADDICTED”.

About the path that you choose

113. Talk about how a person can change his direction.

In life, there are many different paths to choose. Each person has to decide a patch for his life. Left and right are two easy terms to use for a person when they have to decide where to go. An easy example for this is a story. This story has been using in many fairy tale stories. A person has to decide an easy path or a hard path, but every patch has a different ending. But the moral of this story is that when you choose the path that you like, you can always change the patch if it fits you. There is no rule or law that against this. This situation happens a lot in the battle. Either the soldier has to stay in the battle and die like a man, or he can run and lives a life of a coward. So the question is that, should a person back out when he thinks he can not do it anymore. The answer is yes because, if he keeps on trying and the result is still zero, thus he has to change the path. At least he has some experiences for the next try. For my belief, I think that if a person can change his direction depends on his situation. If he does have a lot of confident in himself, a new path will be easy for him. The patch will be hard as he is lacked of confident. As a student, if you do not try your best, you will never know what is going to happen.  If you get low grade, you give up. The path to become a good student is block. As that person has more confident and goes to ask the teacher for help. His grade will automatically go up. That is how a person can change his direction. 

A thought for your Earth

Question- Does human think that the Earth resource is unlimited?

            According to many scientists and economists, they have been telling us, human, that those resources that we use are limited. However, telling is different for us. Humans have been using the resources for a long amount of time. I do not think that by telling directly to people that “You are using too much Earth resource. Stop it!!” might work. There is a test which tells the people who use too much Earth Resource. Basically, there are two test results, one is that if a person have the result under the 2.0; he or she are using a right amount of the Earth resource. But when you across the point 2.0, that person will definitely not hurting the Earth resource, and also he is hurting people around him.  Come back to the topic that Human thinks Earth resource is unlimited. Maybe the life style of one person can not change the way he use the resource. A person has been using the fuel more than half of this life. Do you think that he will suddenly change from fuel into nuclear? The answer is no. Also maybe a person does not trust in the new technology.  From reading the newspaper, they see that when a nuclear station explodes many human lives are taking away. Do you think that he will trust the technology? Including the desire and the greed of a person make the resource of Earth reducing every single day. Just because a person thinks that he is rich he can buy more for himself. From those three points I can say that human does think that the Earth resource is unlimited. If we can get rid of those three types of people the Earth will be saved. For conclusion, I have some questions. If we finish the Earth resource, is war going to happen? Will people share their resource as they are asked? Are they willing to stop thinking for themselves and save the Earth?

Let me introduce myself, my name is Hung Manh Nguyen. Now, you know my name, but you do not really know where I am from, right? I am not going to waste your time to find out where I am from and my information. I am a Vietnamese and I am from Vietnam. My life is not as good as some people, but I am trying to keep up with the rush of the modern life style. What I meant is that I do not give up as everyone who does give up their life. For me, I do not have any talents or any special ability. Thus it makes my life is not going easy. I am just a normal kid from a normal family. I find out that my family was a Chinese family and we adapted to Vietnam. Hardships from life do not stop me from growing to extent my full potential of being a good kid. That is my many people in my family and including my friends like me. I have been a very good kid and I want to show that being a good kid is not hard. It is just depended on you to believe. My life is like a book which flipping into a new chapter. Also I do walk to a new chapter of my life when I had a decision to join Woodstock Community. Finally, I am there as a member of Woodstock Community. That is the place that totally changed me. I become more independent, more responsible for every action that I take. I was not a talkative kid when I first joined the Woodstock community. As time keeps going and my English skill becoming better; finally I could able to speak to the community that I am here to help the community become stronger and also myself. 

Advice for high school

If you were to look back on your high school years, what advice would you give to someone beginning their high school career? (Simmons)

I do not really know what advice I would give to the freshman in their high school career. My whole school year went very fast. I did not have time to listen to the advice of people. All I did was study hard. So then I think my advice for the freshman is study hard. Why the first advice I give is studying hard, because a freshman does need it a lot. As a freshman is doing well in his high school, he will easily find a good college or university when he gradates. Studying is not an only problem that the freshman is going through. Believe me there are tons and tons problem that a freshman has to deal everyday. Until he adapts to the new environment of the high school, he will see things slow down. Therefore, friends will solve the problem for them. Making friends in high school is very easy. Whenever you shout they are there for you, but are they really your best friend, or just “FRIEND”. Do not get mix up those two, because friends in high are different in elementary school. I do not think that the freshman can realize whenever they get stab from behind by his own friend. So choosing is another issue. Make the teacher favorite you is a good advice I can give. Talk to them, and be nice to them. By doing so, a freshman will see his grade go up so fast. There is a benefit to do something right. As a freshman follows my advice, he will see his high school career go very easy, fast. That is what I have done for my high school career. Trust me; it is not that hard if you do not follow these advices (just kidding). By the way, do not forget about the girls, they are the best.

Mom is the BEST

103. Tell us about a person who influenced your life in a significant way. (Princeton)

Without my parents, I do not think that I would be able to make dream of my life comes true. The quality that they are taking care of me is the best. There is nothing that can compare to what I my parents did to me. I learned how to taking care of people from my parents. The way my parents took care of me impact my characteristic. Overall my parents are good, but the especially, my mom is the one that understand me a lot. Dad is just a person gave me advice, I can not listen to what my Dad says all the time, I have got to believe in myself and my ability. Except in the case that I am in the bad situation, and I can not decide for myself.  Mom has been taking care of me since I was born, and I know deeply that my life is value more than her life. She has been scarifying for me. Like buying all the best stuffs for me, working more than what she wants to pay the school fee for me. Before I got the characteristic of taking care of people, I was an arrogant, selfish and always did thing that only I got benefit. One day I realize that all the selfishness does not bring me joys, friends. I asked my Mom why, and she said: “My dear son, may be you should learn how to taking care of people. I believe by that way you will be able to find you a good friend, and the joys will come when you have friend. After listening to my and applying what she told me. The outcome was more than what I expected. My life changed since there.

Risks are unavoidable.

16. Describe a risk that you have taken and discuss its impact on your life. (Kalamazoo College/93)

            For some economists, they will say an advice that the consumer or the producer should take the risk; but for some economists, they say it does not matter what risks the consumer or the producer are taking. The reason is that everything is depended on their luck.

In this writing, I consider myself as a consumer, and I have been taking many risks in my miserable life. None of the risks that I had taken was a good choice, but I could not stop it, it is part of my life. I have to take the risks to move on.

            I have taken many risks in my miserable life. Most of them were not good, and the failing are just keep coming. In life, there are many choices that I have to make and the hard one came when I had to decide which school that I am going to. When I finish my 9^th in a Vietnamese school, my parent asked me if I want to go to study abroad. I was confused and kept thinking that should I go or not. I was constantly kept thinking about it. Should I stay in Vietnam and study there, or should I go to study abroad? I do not want to stay away from my family, friends, and my relatives. They all are my wall that I can lean on when the failing parts come to my life. Finally the decision occurred that I wanted to go to study abroad. My life changed since the day I made the decision. I took the risk and now I am different now. I have to become more responsible, study hard, and try everything with my best since I do not want to send back to Vietnam. In the beginning, I was regretting the risk that I took. Later I found out that the risk that I took was the turning point for my miserable life.

It does not matter what risks you took. I know two things from taking the risks are. One you will fail something by taking the risk, but the thing that you fail will be a new experience for you. Second, I will be success as you take it, because as if you do not take it, you might end up being regret about it. Risks will show up soon, later. Eventually, it can come across your decisions, you would be better prepare for it.

18. What invention would the world be better off without, and why? (Kalamazoo)

All the inventions have different use. Such as the phone for communication, ipod for the entertainment, but one invention was created and it was useless. That was the atomic bomb. I do not know the reason why did the scientists created it? For personal use, or war; none of that will help the human kind.

I saw the caused of the atomic bomb in Japan. Why did the American drop it on them? Does the American have the right to do it? I still do not get it. The fact is that atomic bomb has a huge destruction power. Despite all of that destruction power, what else can it does? I wonder. Another cause that atomic bomb can bring is that it is very expensive. To make an atomic bomb, it takes a lot of money. With that amount of money, we can build many schools for some countries which have a low economic. Instead of making a bomb to destroy a country, and bringing doom or radiation to the human kind, we can do something better. Why don’t we spend that amount of money to Africa to save the hundred thousand African? The big fact is that it is harder to kill than to heal. Why some people do not have that thinking? Some countries spent million to million to upgrade the offensive and defensive systems to protect their country. What a waste of money! I think that those political leaders in some strong countries do not even consider how value the human life is. In the case that the atomic bomb makes an explosion, all the people in a big area will be kill; and the radiation. How can the local people live near that area deal with it? Anyway the atomic bomb is useless. It does not help anyone in anyway. The best solution is that all the project about it should be destroy in order to make human life more insecure.

An advice which turned my life became better.

3. What is the best advice you ever received? Why? And did you follow it? (University of Pennsylvania)

It was on a day that I stood in the International Air port of India. The day that I thought I would never get to do the stuffs that I used to. No more hanging around with my family, and friends. All I could do was waiting next phone call, but it seemed hopeless. No more phone call. I was nerves at the moment that I went on the airplane. I never thought I had to go to study abroad. That was the final decision from my parent. The only good advice I got was from my Pops. He was the one that always give me good advices. Also he saved me many times from the dangerous situations by giving good advices. He said: “Son, you always make me proud, and I know you will make me proud again. I know that. Remember! Never give up, no matter what the situation is. Just stand up and fight, when you stuck, use your head”. First I do not get what he meant, but later the meaning of his advice made a turning point for me.

First time going on the trip alone, I felt very insecure because, my parents were not there to protect me. They once said: “In the house we can protect you as much as we can, but when you go out to the society, you are out of our range. Thus we can not protect you anymore”. I realized that the situation that I was in that current time was tough and it required a lot of my toughness to pass it. Although I could not stand up and took my way. First, I was confused and so sure that everything I did was wrong. Also, I did not know what to do, and I could not adapt to a new environment in India. I was a failure or a lost soldier without a combat at that moment; I did not know whether that I should listen to what my parents said or listened to myself. Suddenly, I found myself back again from the advice that my father gave me when I left. After that, I had more confident in myself. Now, whenever I look back to my past. I see a huge different. My Pops turned my life up in a better with just one advice. Can you find someone do the same thing to you?

Wednesday is an ordinary day, but for me it is a sign. Since Wednesday is the middle day of the week cycle. Hence it is the sign that the weekend is coming. The weather is the same as always, neither cold nor hot. I always enjoy the Wednesdays. Wednesday maybe seem too far away from the weekend. When Wednesday comes, it shows that Monday and Tuesday have passed. The feeling that I have on Wednesday is different from rest of the week cycle. Seem that, I feel more freely than other days. For Monday, it is just after the weekend; it makes me do not want to go to school at all. Doing homework over the weekends, making me feel tire more than ever, I never get to enjoy my weekend freely, due to the appearance of the homework. On Wednesday, I feel like the weekends is coming, and it creates an illusion that tomorrow is Saturday. It does not matter how much homework I have on Wednesday, I never felt the homework is a lot for me on Wednesday. I am not sure that if it is just only me that I am very lucky on Wednesday. Someone asked me out on Wednesday, I got into a basketball team…. Every single Wednesday, I have badminton practice. I forgot to mention that playing badminton under the sunlight of the beautiful Wednesday is very enjoyable. After thinking so much about the Wednesdays, I realize that having the test on Wednesday is the best. If I have the test on Wednesday, I get more time to study for it, since Wednesday is in the middle of the week cycle. Saying this much about Wednesday, it shows me that Wednesday is very special. Now people will see how I use my beautiful Wednesday.

Wonderful Day

·  If you had a day to spend as you wish, how would you use your time? (Carleton College)

As many economists say that, “time is a limited resource”. Time is not capable to control for the humankind. So we have to use it cleverly. If I have a day as I wish, I would use the time wisely, because it is an only day that I have in my entire life.  Then, my point is that I will spend the time mostly with my family, because they act as a major role of my life. Next I will spend time with my girlfriend; she is the one who shared with me everything. Afterward, I will do what I wanted to do the most.

For my family, I will talk to them; share my feeling, my thought about life, and my top secrets. While I am having many conversations with my relatives; I will serve the snack and drink to them. The food will keep people busy and give them satisfaction with their mouth, and their stomach. I give my hand in helping my mom and aunt cooking the food.  The topics of the conversations will be broad, such as about school, daily life, work, sometime about the mistakes of life. I think the conversations are mainly about me, since I am the special one in the whole family.

            The next person is my special one. She is the one that shares with me everything, and this person has a huge effect in me. From school, to outside school, she is the one who helps me a lot. For this special day I will make it the most special day ever for her. She has been caring, and always helping me no matter what the situation is. Maybe this is the only chance that I can show her how much I love her. I then prepared a special gift which I spent a lot of time to do it. And for this special day, I will use many sweet words to talk to her.  

After the time that I spend to finish the object that I listed above, I will use the rest of the time of the day to relax. Maybe I will look back to the past, and have some thought about what already happened in the past or may be the future. The thing that concerns me a lot is the “Time”. The matter is that I want more time to do more things, but….. That is the list of my special day.  

A person who helped me escapse from the "Loneliness"

Tell us about the neighborhood that you grew up in and how it helped shape you into the kind of person you are today. (Yale and the University of Chicago)

There was a girl lived next to my house. Her name is ...... She was the one that helped shape me into the person who is talkative and friendly. When I was a kid, I did not socialize much with everyone around me, because I was shy, and I do not know what to say to the person in front of me. I was a type of silent person. I did everything on my own; and I did not rely on anyone help. I was invisible with the environment that I lived in.

Until a day, there was a family who moved next to my house. The girl lived in the house beside my house, was an energetic, talkative, nice, and an only one that actually talked to me. One day, when I stayed late in school, because there was a party in my house, and every member in my family was busy. I decided to walk home alone, but I was too scare to go without anyone. Then I realized that I was a "loner". The word “loneliness” was used to describe me. Suddenly, someone call my name from the back. It was my neighbor, and she said that she wanted to walk with me to my house (Forgot to mention that she applied into the same school as me). I thought “Two people are better to walk than walking alone”. On the way back, she made me answered all her questions. Finally, I realized that it was so easy to socialize with people. After that day, I talked more with her, then my family. Finally, I started talking to my friends in school, and they said that I have a good scene of humor.

Because of the shyness, I became a silent guy, and did not socialize with anyone. With the appearance of my neighbor, she helped me became a new person. At the moment I talked to my neighbor on the day walking back from school, I finally took out the mask that I was hiding behind. The title “loner” was gone after that day.

Opportunity in Life

If you could go back and change one day in your life, what would you change and why? (Santa Clara University)

I would choose the day that I made the biggest mistake in my life. Why? Because it was the day that I regretted the most about the things i have done on that day. Nobody can get a chance to correct what they did wrong; so this is a chance that I have been waiting for too long. Who knows if this opportunity would come once again? This chance is a big advantage for me, since I can correct my mistake; I can perfect myself for my own good and maybe for the others also.

My biggest mistake in my life was when I had to decide where the best place to go to study aboard would be. The choices for me were India and America; I did not know where to go since the request to go studying aboard from my parents just came across me when I was a kid at the age of 15, thus, I could not decide on my own.

I was stuck and confused about what choice I should make and I made a decision to go to India. I thought that it was going to be a good choice for me. I finally ended up studying, and started settling down there slowly. But there was no doubt about the facility of the school because it was too good for me, at that time when I just came.

After I graduated from the Woodstock school, and I had a chance to go to America. I happily found out that the facility of the school in America was way better than the time I had in Woodstock school, and the lessons provided there was much more diverse and rich; hence I realized, that the choice I made in the past was not good at all.

The opportunity that I can go the past is going to the past can change my entire life. I always wanted to fix that mistake. If I can fix it, I wouldn't have to live a difficult life for 4 years.

Past - Present - Future

·  Imagine that you have the opportunity to travel back through time. At what point in history would you like to stop and why? (Swarthmore)

Travel back through time is a one time chance in a life. Nobody can just get that lucky opportunity. If I had a chance to go back in time, I would definitely choose the time period when my country “Vietnam” got its independence. By choosing that time period, I would have more opportunity to make my country becomes better, and I, myself would write my own history. Since this is an opportunity which is impossible to achieve lying in my hand now. I feel like it is going to be a big challenge in my entire life, because it is an only opportunity. In addition, I would have a chance to make my country become better. Not to forget to mention that I would have to write down my own history. Finally, I want to prove a theory which was said by a famous scientist (sorry, but I don’t know his name) that “if someone goes back to the past and changes one particular event, that event which person changes will also change the future.” 

It would be a difficult decision to choose what time period that I would want to go to, because it will be the only opportunity in my life to change history. Actually, in the beginning, I would not know what time period I would have chosen first, but I got to know the financial problems, and the corruptions in the government of Vietnam. A love of a citizen for a country will not let any opportunities which make his or her country become better. It is same for me; my heart is toward my country. With the knowledge and wisdom that I learned in school and experience from life, it would be a helpful manual going with me to the past.

I want to make history in a way that everyone will remember me. I saw from the history textbook that there were many heroes, leaders, scientist, etc. I had a wish that one day, the students whom study in the high school would learn about me, about my life, etc. I can not stop thinking about it because it is one of the motivations make me desperately want to go back to the past.

Lastly, I want to see how the theory of the scientist works. I know that it is a risk to change the past, because I do not know what might happen when I come back to my time period. If I do not take the risk my name will not be in the history. I have to go on with the decision. 

From my point of view, whatever I do have some meaning, and I will not turn back with my words. Every action, I am going to take will be my choice and I do not care what others think. 

Jennifer Cardy murder 'unique in Northern Ireland'

Robert Black was arrested by the police in 2005. He was accused of abducting and murdering the nine year old girl named Jennifer Cardy. Black was proud of his history of abusing girls. Even knowing that what he is doing is wrong (his thinking), but Black keeps on doing it (his action). The judge says the word "fantasy” of Black is, in fact, a not explicit confession. The Cardy ‘s family was shock when they heard those words from Black. Jennifer’s mom couldn’t hold her tears when she listened to the words came from Black. Black refused to acknowledge his guilt or others crimes that he had done before. He was asked if he had ever turned his “fantasy” into reality, he replied: "Not until I was caught in 1990".  The case still continues. Black once said "I used to think 'could I, should I, will I?'. But, does he really have mental illness? A normal person wouldn’t kill other people then say “I knew it was wrong, but I couldn’t help it?” It is just an excuse for his crime. 
Through the article above, we can connect to Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. From the novel, we know that Mc Murphy is a patient in the mental hospital. The similarity is that the murder’s thinking, Black, and the patient, Mc Murphy is the same. For Black, the readers know that what he had been done is wrong. But for Black, himself insisted that he did not do anything wrong. Same for Mc Murphy, he tried his best to go against the Combine and claimed what he did was right, (for the sake of the patient’s freedom, but it wasn’t actually true). In the end, we know the result that both Black and Mc Murphy will be killed due to what they had done. Another reason is that, both Black and Mc Murphy have the right to do what they want, but breaking the laws is considering as doing wrong thing.
